Examination criteria
There are generally four criteria for evaluation: body shape, quality, finish, and pattern.

Body
This is the most important item, especially the larger the adult koi, the larger the weight. It is important that there is no distortion and that the body lines are even on both sides. Also, koi that are plump and have a well-balanced amount of meat from the head to the tailpiece are highly valued.

Quality
Although it is difficult to describe in words, the scarlet spot is thick red, the ink is black, the skin is white, the more uniform and clear each color is, the higher the evaluation will be.

Finish
This item also depends on the physical condition of the koi at the time, and a koi with a shiny red or ink color and a white background as beautiful as white porcelain is said to have a “good finish”.

Pattern
People have their own preference for patterns, but for red and white Koi, people tend to prefer round dots, three-tiered or four-tiered koi, and for Taisho Sanshoku, they tend to prefer koi with shoulder ink.

Beoordelingscriteria
Er zijn over het algemeen vier criteria voor de beoordeling: lichaamsvorm, kwaliteit, afwerking en patroon.

Lichaam
Dit is het belangrijkste aspect, vooral hoe groter de volwassen koi, hoe zwaarder hij is. Het is belangrijk dat er geen vervorming is en dat de lichaamslijnen aan beide zijden gelijkmatig zijn. Koi die mollig zijn en een goed uitgebalanceerde hoeveelheid vlees hebben van kop tot staartpunt, worden ook zeer gewaardeerd.

Kwaliteit
Hoewel het moeilijk in woorden te beschrijven is, is de scharlakenrode vlek dieprood, de inktzwarte vlek zwart en de huid wit. Hoe uniformer en helderder elke kleur is, hoe hoger de beoordeling.

Afwerking
Dit aspect hangt ook af van de fysieke conditie van de koi op dat moment. Een koi met een glanzende rode of inktkleur en een witte achtergrond, zo mooi als wit porselein, wordt beschouwd als een koi met een “goede afwerking”.

Patroon
Mensen hebben hun eigen voorkeur voor patronen, maar bij rood-witte koi geven mensen vaak de voorkeur aan ronde stippen, koi met drie of vier lagen, en bij Taisho Sanshoku geven ze vaak de voorkeur aan koi met inkt op de schouders.
